Wound up leaving with a pound of handmade chocolate, pretty good stuff. Kid #3 fell asleep with one in her hand, it was white chocolate and melted everywhere, that was an awesome mess to clean up! You can see it there in her hand if you squint, pre-melty condition:
A little bit further into the mountains, and we began to see massive snow fences wending their way beside the road. The winds picked up, and I turned the driving over to Michael, as snow skittered across the roads and the wind pushed the van sideways.
There were flashing warning signs at certain points in the road (I-80) warning semi trucks to drive 45mph.
I'm supposing this is what happens when a truck goes too fast in that wicked wind:
We saw four wrecks in two hundred miles, all semis. The wind had literally carried them right off the road (the roads were not slick!) and flung them, twisted metal, along the side with no regard for the loads they hauled. It was rather terrifying, how Nature had absolutely no regard for the plans or working of mere Man.
These were taken on the road from Ft. Collins to Laramie, Wyoming...
